Kiki Minkova: when we were somewhere else | Exhibition Finissage

  • Brody House 10 Bródy Sándor utca Budapest, 1088 Hungary (map)

Join us for the finissage of Kiki Minkova’s solo photo exhibition when we were somewhere else — a photographic journey through people, places, fleeting moments and the feeling of belonging. The evening will include a guided art tour led by Kiki herself, offering a closer look at the stories and ideas behind her work.

Born in Sofia and raised in Budapest, the artist describes herself as she the Bulgarian from Budapest — someone for whom home has never been tied to a single place, but to a lifestyle often found somewhere between cities, cultures, and the people who inhabit them.

Shot entirely on 35mm film, from the Balkans to Mexico City, the first photograph dates back to when she started her newly independent university life in London and follows her journey through moving countries, to all the way to this day. For Kiki, travelling through space became synonymous with the warm, fuzzy feeling of being at home.

For the artist, film photography is a practice in patience: slowing down, paying attention, and allowing a moment to exist without interrupting it.

‘when we were somewhere else’ is an invitation to do the same — to look a little closer, to notice what might otherwise go unseen, and to find beauty in the ordinary.
